Behind a dominant 30-point second-quarter explosion, Fairland routed Minford 68-38 in the Division V District Semifinals on Saturday. The victory was headlined by senior star Bailey Russell, who became the program’s all-time leading scorer as the Dragons punched their ticket to next week's district championship game.

The atmosphere in Waverly was tense early on, as the Falcons were not intimidated by the higher-seeded Dragons, and came out strong, controlling the pace for the entire first quarter. Emma Carter and MaKenna Enz led a disciplined Falcon attack, each netting 4 points to give Minford a 13-11 lead after one.

The back and forth continued into the opening minutes of the second frame, and after Enz buried a difficult fallaway jumper to put Minford up 19-15, it appeared the Falcons might be be giving the heavily favored Dragons a run for their money.

However, the momentum shifted in an instant. Fairland ignited a clinical 6-0 run in 20 seconds that shattered the Falcons' rhythm and opened the floodgates.

The Dragons outscored Minford 30-10 in the period, fueled by a balanced attack from Lola Donahue, Rylee Russell, and Isa Taliaferro. By halftime, Fairland had turned a deficit into a commanding 41-23 lead.

The third quarter provided the game's most memorable moment, as senior guard Bailey Russell notched her 1,691st career point, officially surpassing the school’s all-time scoring record.

The Fairland faithful gave the senior a well-deserved ovation as the Dragons continued to pull away, outscoring the Falcons 20-8 in the quarter. With a 30-point lead heading into the fourth, both sides gradually to their benches to close out the contest.

The Lady Dragons' balanced offensive attack was the story of the night. Bailey Russell led all scorers with 17 points, etching her name at the top of the Fairland record books. She was supported by Addison Godby and Isa Taliaferro, who each chipped in 9 points. Lola Donahue added 8 points during the decisive second-quarter run, while Rylee Russell contributed 7 and Addyson Cornell finished with 6.

For the Falcons, the early effort was spearheaded by MaKenna Enz and Emma Carter, who helped Minford stay competitive by leading the opening ten minutes of play before the Fairland defense violently shifted the momentum.

While the Minford Falcons see their season conclude with a hard-fought 12-11 record, the Fairland Dragons (20-4) move one step closer to their ultimate goal. Fairland will return to the court next Saturday to face Portsmouth West in the District Championship.
