PORTSMOUTH - Basketball season is right around the corner, and the Lady Trojans are poised to make another run at the title.

Last season, the Portsmouth Lady Trojans finished off the season with an impressive 27-1 record, losing only to Division I powerhouse, Mount Notre Dame. The Lady Trojans raised the trophy high in Dayton as they defeated Norwayne 53-38 to capture the Division V State Championship.
The big question this season is, how will the Lady Trojans respond after losing key pieces like Daysha Reid and Savannah Cantrell. Daysha now playing college basketball at Georgetown College while Savannah stayed in Portsmouth to play college basketball at Shawnee State University.
We got a glimpse of the Lady Trojans in a scrimmage against Division I West Clermont in a multi-team scrimmage. Portsmouth struggled early as it was clear they were trying to find their chemistry. But Keke Woods commanded the top of the key and started dishing the rock to her teammates for easy points. With the scrimmage seemingly neck and neck through the first two quarters, Portsmouth made an adjustment in the simulated halftime. The Lady Trojans started picking up the pressure on the defensive end which seemed to rattle West Clermont. This caused missed shots and turnovers which led to points on the other end for the Lady Trojans.
This season, the Lady Trojans will need to reply on their experience and senior leadership. The Lady Trojans have their floor general and last year's starting point guard Keke Woods and their force in the middle, Hayven Carter returning. Then with Shawnee State University commit KK Mays and Ohio University commit Sienna Allen returning, the Lady Trojans are set for another run at the title.
